Magna International is a global automotive parts supplier based in Aurora, Ontario, and does old-school manufacturing of vehicle seats, chassis, transfer cases and other products. Perhaps it was due to their blue-collar mindset or the fact they are humble Canadians, but their company struggled engaging employees, sharing positive stories and even blocked social media access across the company.


Yet in 2016, Magna International presented their leadership team with a plan to change all this: open up social media, create interactive messaging and become more creative in our external posts to get employees excited about the company.


They set out and created a “We Have Magnatude” campaign, Magna trivia, and a “60’s on 6” campaign for their 60th anniversary among other efforts. As a result, in two years they have increased their social media following more than 30 percent each year and earned leadership buy-in. This was accomplished by spending next-to-nothing and engaging employees in manufacturing, plant-floor environments.
