Bringing Sexy Back: How to Make Internal Communications Work in a Non-Sexy, Manufacturing Environment
Magna International

Magna International is a global automotive parts supplier based in Aurora, Ontario, and does old-school manufacturing of vehicle seats, chassis, transfer cases and other products. Perhaps it was due to their blue-collar mindset or the fact they are humble Canadians, but their company struggled engaging employees, sharing positive stories and even blocked social media access across the company.

Yet in 2016, Magna International presented their leadership team with a plan to change all this: open up social media, create interactive messaging and become more creative in our external posts to get employees excited about the company.

They set out and created a “We Have Magnatude” campaign, Magna trivia, and a “60’s on 6” campaign for their 60th anniversary among other efforts. As a result, in two years they have increased their social media following more than 30 percent each year and earned leadership buy-in. This was accomplished by spending next-to-nothing and engaging employees in manufacturing, plant-floor environments.

Discover for yourself how to make internal communications work for you, including best practices to help you:

  • Craft messages that resonate with your audiences
  • Grow your audiences without a large or sexy well-known brand name
  • Implement employee engagement tactics on little-to-no budget
  • Connect and engage with offline, front line, and non-desk employees
  • Explore how your internal and external communication strategies align and can be used in your favor

Bridge the Communication Gap Between Non-Desk, Offline, and Front-Line Employees Using Vide to Significantly Increase Employee Engagement
Pet Supplies Plus

In retail, there are hard-to-reach employees, such as cashiers and stock people, and even the hourly distribution staff.  As such, managers are relied on to pass down info second- and third-hand.  That’s not the same as talking to people direct, and you can’t always control the delivery style.

Pet Supplies Plus distribution was suffering from high turnover.  So, their internal communication team set out to create an engaging way to deliver the information firsthand, and that was the creation of a “top 10 countdown-style YouTube video.”  You know, the kind you can’t quit watching when you’re on your iPad and have other things to do…

Suddenly, engagement.

Learn how Pet Supplies Plus used video to help bridge the communication gap across their organization, including:

  • Keeping all employees informed and engaged
  • Ensuring all employees know the reasons why they should contribute to their company and its future success
  • Using an internal, up-to-date communication channel to relay important organization news

Keeping Your Employees Informed, Engaged and Inspired During a Mega Merger
Dell

After nearly a year in the making, the historic combination of Dell and EMC was complete, at least on paper. While the two powerhouses were now one in the market, the work to fully integrate the new organization had just begun: teams, systems, policies, and cultural norms and values had to be recalibrated to ensure the business would be successful. Failure to connect and align team members (employees) to the new strategy, story and each other would have real impact.

Learn how Dell and EMC used a global campaign and change management communications program to keep their team members informed, inspired and engaged, including tactics to:

  • Launch a robust program globally and locally focusing on the wins along the way
